Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year in room 29! My name is Verónica Herrera and I have been teaching for 21 years in LAUSD. I have taught every grade level, K-5th. I like to help students develop their problem-solving skills, integrate art and music throughout the curriculum, and help hone students' research skills through project reports and presentations. I know that this will be a positive year for your child as we work together to ensure your child's academic success, strengthen social skills, and learn a lot of new concepts in 4th grade!
This year I am using ClassDojo to keep parents updated on their child's behavior and progress. It also has a chat feature that allows parents and teachers to communicate via text messages. I will also be posting pictures of class projects and events for parents and students to see. Please download this app and sign-up so you can get started with this exciting tool. I will need your email or a cell phone number to send you an invite. You can also use your parent code that I sent home during the first week of school to sign-up directly from the app: https://www.classdojo.com/
Homework is important. It is an extension of what your child has learned in class. I encourage you to help your child when your child has difficulties, but I ask that all homework is ultimately completed and written by your child. Please note:
- All work must be clean and neat.
- Homework that is turned-in late or incomplete may affect your child's grade.
- Homework will be given out every day, Monday through Friday.
- To improve your child's reading skills, All students need to complete their reading log every day, 7 days a week.
As you know, reading at any age is very important. Your child will be expected to read 30 minutes a day. I will be sending home a Scholastic Books catalog once a month and I hope that you will find the prices quite reasonable so you can start a 'reading library' for your child. I also encourage you to visit your local library. Library cards are FREE!!
