My name is Sara Mejia. I am the Special Day Class Teacher for grades K-2nd, Room 21. This is my 2nd year at Marvin Ave. Elem. I have been teaching for over 4 years and have taught in the Moderate to Severe setting as well as the Mild-Moderate. My teaching experiences have provided me with a strong foundation in teaching methodologies and specifically working with students with learning disabilities. Marvin Ave. Elementary instills growth, integrity, and creativity for every student.
I am proud to serve your children and our school community.
As the Special Day Class teacher, I provide instruction and services for students whose needs have been identified through an Individualized Education Program (IEP) developed by the IEP team. The goal of this program is to provide learning support needed so that students can achieve grade level common core standards, which are the foundation of my program.
The program is designed to give support to students with learning disabilities and give them strategies to help them be successful in their education. The Special Day Program offers small group instruction to meet the needs of each child’s individual education plan (IEP).
I work with a group of individuals who provide services and assistance to the students to ensure that they are provided the supervision, accommodations, and modifications as directed by their IEP; such as Behavior Support, Occupational Therapy, Speech, Adapted PE, etc.
It is my goal to consistently provide a safe, friendly, and welcoming environment for all students to facilitate the achievement of their individual goals as specified on their IEP (Individual Educational Program).
I strongly believe that every student is capable of learning when provided with the appropriate tools.
